A quantity of precious metals such as Platinum, Gold and Silver assessed by weight
and typically cast as ingots. Bullion is usually traded based on their intrisic metal value.
2. What is the difference between purchasing a Bullion bar and Kruger Rand?
A Kruger Rand is only 22 carat gold (91, 67% Gold) and a gold minted bullion bar is 99.99% pure gold.
3. Can a Kruger Rand be melted to manufacture jewellery?
In South Africa, it is illegal for a Jeweller to melt a Kruger Rand
4. Can a minted bullion bar be melted to manufacture jewellery?
In South Africa, only a person or company licensed to process precious metals (such as a jeweler) may manufacture jewellery using a minted bar
5. Is it illegal to own a gold bullion bar in South Africa?
The Precious Metals Act 2005 makes provision for the South African public to own and possess minted gold bars for the first time since 1911.
6. How do I know that the bars are not counterfeit?
Each bar is issued with a certificate (silver excluded) that reflects the unique serial number of the bar. The bar and serial number are packed in a tamper – proof container (silver excluded) that will indicate if the bar has been tampered with.
7. How am I assured of the quality of my minted bar?
Metcon Refinery has been in operation since 1990 and is a member of the Jewellery Council of South Africa. All minted bars are manufactured in accordance with the specifications laid down by the South African Bureau of Standards – Specification SANS 29 – Articles made of Precious Metals.
8. When is the price locked in?
When you accept the quotation sent by the Metcon Refinery sales team.
9. How much time do I have to pay for my order?
Confirmed payment must reflect in our bank account within 24 hours of acceptance of the quotation.
10. Do we offer storage of Gold?
Regrettably we may not offer storage facilities for gold or precious metal bars, however, you may store them in your own safe or bank security box.
11. Will you buy back the gold bullion bars even if the gold price increases?
We will repurchase minted bars. Phone us for a quote.
12. How do I know that the diamonds purchased via Metcon Refinery are authentic?
All diamonds supplied via Metcon Refinery are certified and graded.
13. What if I want my diamond to be a different size, colour or shape?
